DXF

DXF is an acronym for Data eXchange Format. Autodesk Corporation   (ADSK) owns this trademark It is used to transmit data from Mechanical CAD programs to other applications such as Electronic CAD, also known as EDA (Electronic Design Automation) programs.

This is helpful to many applications but in our case it is often used to check the mechanical fit of electronic projects such as a printed circuit board fitting into an enclosure. Some RF and Microwave designers prefer to work in a mechanical program in order to draw the shapes that they need as individual components or complete designs. These designers typically need to convert the DXF into an electronic format such as a Gerber file.

IsoPro offers optional DXF input

-Important Note-

Since mechanical CAD programs are very flexible and can be used for a wide variety of applications DXF files are in units. A unit can be a mil (1/1000th of an inch), a millimeter, a micron, a meter, an inch, a mile or a furlong. In order to use DXF file effectively one should check which unit the designer is using before proceeding.
